The Kuiper Knife -
Share
Since the launch of the original Callisto in 2024, Orbital Knives has focused on designing production knives that deliver quality, value, and performance to as many people as possible. That mission is not changing. Production knives will continue to be the heart of what we do.
At the same time, something else has been happening behind the scenes.
Over the last several months, I have been learning the craft of making knives by hand. As a knife designer, I have spent years studying shapes, ergonomics, materials, and mechanisms. Designing a knife teaches you a lot, but making one teaches you things that cannot be learned from a computer screen.
That journey led to the creation of the Kuiper.

A Different Kind of Orbital Knife
The Kuiper is not intended to replace our production models, nor is it an attempt to compete with established custom makers. Instead, it represents a different side of Orbital Knives.
Every Kuiper knife is made by hand, one at a time. That means each knife carries small differences that naturally occur during the handmade process. Dimensions may vary slightly. Lines may change. The shape may evolve from one knife to the next.
In the production world, consistency is the goal. Every knife should be identical to the last.
With the Kuiper, individuality becomes part of the experience.
No two knives will be exactly the same, and that is by design.
Why "Kuiper"?
The name comes from the Kuiper Belt, a vast region beyond Neptune populated by countless celestial bodies. While they share the same neighborhood, each object has its own shape, size, and identity.
That idea felt like the perfect fit for this project.
Every Kuiper knife belongs to the same family, but each one develops its own character through the handmade process. They share a common foundation while remaining uniquely individual.
Small Batches, Not Mass Production
One of the things that excites me most about the Kuiper project is the freedom it creates.
Production knives require significant planning, large manufacturing runs, and long development cycles, and big investments. A design might take years to go from concept to finished product.
The Kuiper allows me to explore ideas on a much smaller scale.
Some batches may consist of only a few knives. Others may feature slight design changes, different finishes, or new experiments that would never make sense in a large production run.
Because everything is made by hand, the Kuiper series gives me an opportunity to test ideas, refine techniques, and continue growing as a maker.
A Journey Worth Sharing
The Kuiper represents a new chapter for Orbital Knives and a personal milestone in my own journey. Moving from designing knives to building them has given me a deeper appreciation for the craft and a greater understanding of what makes a knife truly special.
There is still a lot to learn, and that is part of the excitement.
The Kuiper series will never be produced in large numbers. It will remain a small-batch project built around craftsmanship, experimentation, and continuous improvement.
For those who choose to own one, you're not just getting another knife. You're getting a snapshot of a journey in progress, a handmade piece that reflects the lessons learned, the skills developed, and the passion that continues to drive Orbital Knives forward.
