Blade Show West: What to Expect at This and Other Knife Events

If you’ve never been to a knife show before, you’re in for a treat. Imagine a giant gathering where the air smells faintly of oil and leather, tables are stacked with shiny blades, and everyone around you actually gets why you obsess over pocket knives. That’s a knife show.

Blade Show West, Blade Show Atlanta, or any of the regional gatherings... these are like Disneyland for knife people. So, here’s what you can expect:

1. The People

Knife shows aren’t just about knives, they’re about the community. You’ll meet makers, designers, collectors, and everyday folks who carry a knife in their pocket the same way they carry their phone. Everyone’s excited to talk steel, share stories, and show off their latest finds. Don’t be shy! Strike up a conversation. Knife people are some of the friendliest out there, I promise :)

2. The Tables (aka the Danger Zone for Your Wallet)

Rows and rows of tables filled with knives. Production models, customs, prototypes... you name it, it’s there. Be prepared: your wallet WILL get lighter. Pro tip: bring cash and a backpack. Cash helps for quick deals, and the backpack saves you from walking around with a plastic bag full of sharp things.

3. "Hands On" Time

One of the coolest parts of a knife show is actually getting to handle the knives you’ve only seen in photos or YouTube reviews. Feel the action, test the ergonomics, flip it open a dozen times... this is where you really know if a knife is for you. Just ask before you pick something up (table etiquette goes a long way).

4. Exclusive Drops & Prototypes

Some makers and brands save their best stuff for shows. Limited editions, new prototypes, or even 1 of 1 builds often make their first appearance here. If you see something you love, don’t “think about it” for too long, by the time you circle back, it might be gone.

5. The Purchase Process

At shows, some companies run with a simple rule: “all sales are final.” That’s different from buying online, where returns or warranties are easier to manage. The upside? You’ll often find amazing deals at these booths. The tradeoff? Once you buy it, it’s yours. So before you hand over the cash, take a good look at the knife. Check the blade centering, detent strength, pocket clip tension, and keep an eye out for nail trails or other marks. A careful inspection up front saves surprises later

6. Beyond the Knives

Don’t forget the gear. Knife shows usually feature sheaths, sharpening systems, strops, pocket tools, beads, lanyards, etc. You’ll find a whole world of EDC accessories to level up your kit.

7. Stop by Booth 513 – Orbital Knives

And of course, if you’re heading to Blade Show West, you have to swing by booth 513. We’ll have Orbital Knives models like the Callisto and Fornax, and also prototypes on display. Come check out the designs in person, talk knives with us, and even share some ideas with us.

Final Tip: Have Fun

At the end of the day, knife shows are about having fun. You’ll leave with a lighter wallet, heavier pockets, and probably a few new friends. Whether it’s Blade Show West in Utah, Blade Show Atlanta, or a smaller regional meetup, just go. You’ll thank yourself later.
